Campsfield Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) is expanding its workforce whilst operating as a newly opened centre. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring colleagues to join our growing team.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities

  • To actively promote and design educational activities and vocational courses including online learning and assessment processes.
  • Conduct workshops focused on their skillset and experience, ensuring they address the needs of the residents and fulfil necessary contractual obligations.
  • Provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive and productive environment for residents that encourages them to attend and enables them to learn and develop.

Main Duties

  • Promote and explain educational opportunities across the Centre; including Maths, English, ESOL and other courses, ensuring residents understand their relevance to the Preparation for Release programme.
  • Assess learner skills and language levels, adapting learning approaches where needed to remove barriers and ensure appropriate enrolment.
  • Develop and deliver core and advanced modular courses, providing engaging, relevant teaching that supports learners in achieving their objectives.
  • Deliver accredited vocational programmes (including OCN Vocational Skills), maintaining high standards of delivery, quality assurance and learner induction.
  • Create and maintain a safe, positive and well-managed learning environment, ensuring tools, equipment, resources and administrative data are secure, compliant and effectively used.
  • Plan, promote and deliver workshops, activities, competitions, events and artistic projects that support learner development and build transferable skills.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and residents to support cultural events and wider Regimes & Activities functions, providing cover and undertaking additional duties as required to maintain continuity of service.
  • Monitor attendance, retention and achievement, contributing to the development of improvements, completing all required documentation, and advising on resources and equipment to meet educational standards and contractual requirements.

Person Specification

  • An appropriate teaching qualification and experience is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of vocational skills in their area of specialism.
  • Previous teaching experience within a related subject is required.
  • Must be able to cover evening provision and weekend.
  • Experience of delivering relevant skills workshops/training.
  • Experience within the custodial setting.
  • Experience of working with ESOL learners would be advantageous and a patient and understanding attitude to the language problems faced by learners is essential.
