Mitie is recruiting an Operating Unit Director to lead a major healthcare portfolio in London. This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, commercial outcomes and people leadership across a high‑profile healthcare estate. Patient care is at the heart of everything this role does. The services delivered by this portfolio directly support safe, reliable, compassionate environments for patients, clinicians and healthcare colleagues.
You will lead a large, complex portfolio with responsibility for strategy, growth, P&L, service quality, compliance and culture, operating within Mitie's governance and delegation of authority. You will also play a key role in shaping a high‑performance, values‑led culture across the Healthcare business and the wider Technical Services senior leadership community.
- Set and deliver a multi‑year healthcare strategy aligned to Mitie's vision and Technical Services ambitions
- Identify and deliver growth opportunities across NHS and healthcare clients, including new business and contract expansion
- Build and lead a strong, future‑ready leadership team with clear succession and development plans
- Champion innovation, digital adoption and standardised operating models to improve quality, resilience and patient outcomes
- Represent Mitie at senior healthcare forums and with key public‑sector stakeholders
Ensure safe, compliant and high‑quality service delivery across all healthcare contracts:
- Maintain robust oversight of statutory, clinical, safeguarding and healthcare‑specific compliance
- Embed consistent operating models and best practice to improve reliability and reduce risk
- Drive continuous improvement across quality, safety, sustainability and patient experience
- Lead recovery and service improvement activity where required
Lead, develop and retain a high‑performing, inclusive leadership team:

Senior leadership experience within public‑sector healthcare environments (for example NHS Trusts, ICBs or healthcare PFI):
- Proven track record of delivering safe, compliant, patient‑centric services at scale
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with full P&L accountability
- Experience leading complex, regulated contracts with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to simplify complexity, standardise operations and drive continuous improvement
- Strong influencing and communication skills, credible at executive level
