We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team delivering complex mechanical installations across plantrooms, energy centres, and large-scale decarbonisation projects. The role involves estimating works that include heat pumps, chillers, gas boilers, distribution pipework, thermal stores, and associated mechanical plant for public and private-sector clients.

Main Duties:

  • Mechanical Estimating & Tender Development: Prepare detailed cost estimates and complete tender packages for plantrooms, energy centres, and decarbonisation projects, covering labour, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries, and risk allowances.
  • Technical Interpretation & Cost Analysis: Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents to produce accurate take-offs and robust cost breakdowns.
  • Supply Chain Engagement & Commercial Assessment: Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations, validate technical compliance, and assess project risks, constraints, and opportunities.
  • Collaboration & Value Engineering: Work closely with design, project, and commercial teams to align scope and delivery strategy, while identifying cost-effective, compliant value engineering solutions.
  • Bid Support & Market Intelligence: Prepare bid documentation, tender clarifications, and technical submissions, attend site visits/tender meetings, and maintain an up-to-date cost database for low-carbon mechanical technologies.

Skill and Experience required:

  • Mechanical Estimating Experience: Proven track record as a Mechanical Estimator within building services, M&E contracting, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Plant & System Knowledge: Strong understanding of key mechanical systems including heat pumps (air/ground source), chillers, boilers, and LTHW/CHW distribution.
  • Technical Interpretation: Skilled in reading and interpreting MEP drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Commercial & Digital Skills: Good commercial awareness with experience in tendering processes, supported by proficiency in estimating software, Excel, and digital take-off tools.
  • Communication & Low-Carbon Awareness: Confident communicator with suppliers, clients, and consultants, with knowledge of decarbonisation strategies, energy efficiency, and low-carbon technologies.
