As a Senior Design Engineer, you will lead and manage a team of Graduate Design Engineers and Design Engineers to deliver high-quality electrical and solar PV system designs within agreed timelines. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Project Management: Manage and mentor design teams to complete assigned projects efficiently. Review and approve design submissions, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Provide constructive feedback and technical guidance to enhance team knowledge.
- Design & Compliance: Perform and oversee electrical system design, including cable sizing and protection calculations. Complete designer risk assessments and ensure adherence to statutory and non-statutory requirements. Identify non-compliance and safety issues, proposing effective solutions.
- Solar PV Expertise: Understand and apply Solar PV design principles, including system sizing, inverter selection, and electrical connections. Conduct site assessments to evaluate feasibility and optimize system performance. Utilize CAD and PV design software (PV Syst/PV Sol) for detailed layouts.
- Technical Documentation & Client Interaction: Prepare technical documentation and cost estimates for tender responses. Liaise with clients to ensure designs meet requirements and communicate technical concepts clearly. Support stakeholder meetings, design forums, and workshops.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in training programs and promote knowledge sharing within the team. Document lessons learned and implement improvements in design processes. Maintain accurate data within company tools and systems.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (2382-22); Electrical Design & Verification of Installations (QCF Level 4 / 2396)
- Preferred Qualifications: Solar PV training or CPD certifications; Electrical Installations (QCF Level 3 - 2357/2365); Electrical Testing & Inspection (QCF Level 3 - 2391); Experience in commercial-scale design projects.
