The role is to be FBP to the Custom Solar acquisition and reports to head of Finance and the MD of Custom Solar. Custom Solar sits within the Power and Grid business unit and has aggressive growth targets in a market with huge potential. The acquisition has maintained its entrepreneurial culture, and the fit of the individual into this culture will be important in order to ensure success.
The role is commercially focused, supporting operations, clients, and business development teams. The key to being successful in this role is adding value - supporting growth targets by winning additional business from this client with the business development teams and working with operations to ensure we maximise revenue from existing business and deliver our services as efficiently as possible, ensuring project profitability is maximised and working capital management is optimised. The Finance Business Partner is pivotal in supporting this element of the business.
In working closely with the operational and business development teams and being a part of the day-to-day running of the business, the FBP will play a key role in accurate reporting of the monthly results, ensuring they reflect the current performance of the business and driving initiatives as required. The FBP will also be instrumental in compiling the annual operating plan, the quarterly forecasts, and OGSPs, as well as ad hoc financial analysis to support business decisions, business cases, and bid development - ensuring we understand how internal and external influences will impact the business and making the best decisions for the Custom Solar Business.
The individual will be a qualified accountant, qualified or qualified through experience - ideally with 3+ years commercial experience, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to understand and solve complex issues. The individual is a good communicator, has excellent stakeholder management skills, and is an effective influencer. The individual will need strong leadership skills managing a team of 1 in the short term that will grow with the business.
Main Duties- Budgeting & Projections: Maintain top level budget (annual and medium term) and report variances, P&L, BS, and cashflow. Create ROI processes to ensure that spending is focused on the areas of highest return. Update projections sufficiently regularly to indicate likely year-end performance. Create and manage project budgets and report variances upon completion.
- Reporting & Accurate Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records within SAP accounting, including debtors, creditors, bank, and fixed assets. Maintain fixed asset register, including vehicle log. Produce accurate and timely MI to facilitate decision making by SLT. Develop a suite of KPIs aligned to Mitie Plc to effectively monitor company performance on a monthly basis. Establish and enforce financial controls following good accounting principles. Manage financial company policy documents. Manage month end and year end accounting processes.
- Cost Control and Purchase Management: Manage purchasing policy and procedure to control costs and manage suppliers. Maintain accurate cost records, by project, to enable clear understanding of project profitability. Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Ensure full costs captured in Pre Job Costings. End of project Post Job Costing review and report on significant variances.

- ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA part qualified; qualified or qualified through experience, ideally with 3+ years commercial experience.
