We are currently seeking a vigilant and highly responsible CCTV & Control Centre Operator to join the SSCC team, supporting South Western Railway (SWR) and its network spanning from London Waterloo to Weymouth.
Important Note: As part of this role, you may be required to view disturbing or graphic CCTV footage, which could include fatal incidents. Emotional resilience and professionalism are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor a network of nearly 3,000 CCTV cameras across SWR stations for unusual or suspicious activity.
- Log, track, and communicate daily with Rail Community Officers (RCOs) via radio—documenting their movements and locations accurately.
- Deploy RCOs and elevate incidents in coordination with British Transport Police (BTP), local police forces, SWR staff, and customer support teams.
- Maintain clear and prompt communications via SSCC chat group—ensuring Management team is updated on all incidents.
- Liaise with emergency services and police as required and facilitate CCTV playback viewings with the appropriate approvals.
- Complete Safety & Security App forms for incidents reported by guards or train drivers—automatically submitted to BTP for investigation.
- Manage multiple incidents simultaneously with strong prioritisation and calm under pressure.
Essential Skills & Requirements:
- Strong situational awareness and the ability to remain calm during high-pressure incidents.
- Confident use of the phonetic alphabet and knowledge of radio communication protocols (e.g., use of call signs, no personal names).
- High attention to detail with accurate record-keeping using spreadsheets and communication logs.
- Ability to work with sensitive and sometimes disturbing CCTV footage, including potential fatal incidents.
- Experience in CCTV monitoring, control room operations, or similar roles is highly desirable.
- Clear understanding of data protection laws and protocols—no mobile recording of footage allowed.
