To ensure the safety and security of air cargo, site personnel, and property by performing access control, cargo screening, and surveillance duties in compliance with Department for Transport (DfT) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations. As a key member of Mitie's Aviation Security team, the role supports secure, efficient, and compliant cargo operations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out screening of cargo using X‑ray machines, ETD (Explosive Trace Detection), hand search, and other approved methods in line with CAA regulations and training.
  • Control access to the site and cargo handling areas, ensuring only authorised personnel are permitted entry.
  • Conduct security checks on vehicles, visitors, and staff in accordance with site procedures.
  • Monitor CCTV systems and respond to security incidents or alarms.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of screening activities and access control logs.
  • Report any suspicious behaviour, items, or breaches of security to the duty manager and escape as required.
  • Support operational duties as required by the Cargo or Aviation Security Manager.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders while upholding a professional security presence.
  • Follow Mitie and site‑specific policies, including health and safety protocols, and actively contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Participate in regular refresher training, including aviation security modules and on‑the‑job assessments.

Essential Requirements

  • Must hold a valid CTC (Counter Terrorism Check) or be willing to undergo the vetting process.
  • Completion of Aviation Security Cargo Training (CO - Cargo Operative) including: COS - Cargo Screening, CO - Cargo Operative, GSAT - General Security Awareness Training.
  • Experience in a similar security or screening role, preferably in aviation or cargo.
  • Good understanding of aviation and cargo security regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High levels of attention to detail and situational awareness.
  • Ability to work under pressure and remain calm during incidents.
  • Physically fit to perform screening and patrol duties.
  • 5 Year checkable history in the UK.
  • Must do Nights.

Desirable

  • Previous experience operating X‑ray or ETD screening equipment.
  • SIA Licence (Security Guarding or Door Supervisor).
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Manual handling and health & safety training.
