This is a full‑time, on‑site Retail Security Officer role based in Ellesmere Port. The Retail Security Officer will be responsible for maintaining a visible and professional security presence within the store, including patrolling the premises, monitoring customer and staff activity, and deterring theft and anti‑social behaviour. The role involves monitoring CCTV where required, responding to alarms and incidents, and accurately reporting and documenting any security or safety issues.
The officer will support store management and colleagues by managing access control, assisting with conflict de‑escalation, and promoting a safe environment for customers and team members. The position also requires close collaboration with the client and Mitie management, adherence to site procedures and legal requirements, and participation in regular briefings and training.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a security, retail security, or customer‑facing protection role, ideally within a busy retail environment.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to identify risks, suspicious behaviour, and potential security breaches.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage confidently and respectfully with customers, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure, manage conflict, and de‑escalate challenging situations professionally.
- Good report‑writing skills and basic IT literacy for using incident reporting systems and, where applicable, CCTV platforms.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required by the site rota.
- Integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to health and safety, duty of care, and confidentiality standards.
- Relevant security licensing or certifications (such as an SIA licence or equivalent), or willingness and eligibility to obtain them.
- Basic first aid, fire safety awareness, or previous training in emergency procedures is an advantage.
- Ability to stand and patrol for extended periods and perform the physical aspects of the role with reasonable accommodations as needed.
