Position Overview

Based at HMS Sultan in Gosport, working primarily in a storeroom environment, the post holder will be a versatile customer focused Stores Operative, with the drive to provide a first‑class service to the Armed Forces. The incumbent will be versatile in controlling stored items to ensure optimum availability to the military community on site. Training can be provided, where appropriate.

Main Duties

  • The role involves demanding and issuing specialist stores and clothing, as well as unloading deliveries from vehicles, unpackaging goods, and replenishing stock.
  • It includes reviewing all incoming deliveries against invoices to identify and resolve any discrepancies.
  • The position requires maintaining appropriate stock levels and carrying out regular stocktaking to ensure that compliance checks are completed accurately.
  • Additionally, the individual is expected to develop and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders while promoting a high standard of customer service excellence.
  • A strong commitment to a safe working culture is essential, including adherence to all Health and Safety procedures, processes, and legal requirements.
  • The role also involves undertaking any additional tasks as assigned by the Line Manager, including taking the lead on changes to support and meet the evolving needs of the business.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate is required to be well‑organised, precise, confident with credible communication skills readily able and willing to contribute at all levels. In addition, the individual will be versatile, intuitive, and professional with good judgement and absolute integrity. Proactive and persuasive when required and responsive to changing needs of the business and demands of the customer, while remaining calm under pressure and self‑motivated, the incumbent will be reliable and well presented, giving a positive image of MITIE company values.

In addition, we are looking for candidates who have proven experience working in a warehouse or store environment, along with being IT literate and possessing a good working knowledge of MS Office applications. Applicants should have a demonstrated track record of delivering high‑quality, customer‑facing service and experience. The role requires the ability to adapt to short‑notice changes in requirements and deadlines, as well as a good standard of education, preferably achieving grade C or equivalent in English and Mathematics. Candidates must also be willing to undertake occasional local travel to work at other sites to provide absence cover when necessary.

Knowledge of MOD Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) stores accounting applications is desirable; however, training can be provided.

Additional Information

MOD security clearance and DBS Standard required. To meet national security vetting requirements, you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years to gain a Counter Terrorist Check, 5 years for Security Clearance and 10 years for Developed Vetting prior to the date of application. All Developed Vetted posts are required to be UK Nationals. Proof of right to work in UK essential. Required to wear approved company work wear.
