Job Title: Construction Planner

Location: Stourbridge

Reports To: Senior Operations Manager / Operations Manager

Hours of Work: Monday – Thursday 9am – 5pm; Friday 9am – 4pm, but flexibility is required.

We are looking for an experienced and driven Construction Planner to join our growing project delivery team. In this role, you will take ownership of the planning and programming function across large-scale fire protection installation projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, to budget, and to the high standards our clients expect.

You will work closely with the Operations & Project Managers, engineers, estimators, and site teams, as well as liaising with contractors, suppliers, and clients. Your ability to manage complexity, anticipate risk, and communicate clearly at all levels will be central to your success in this role.

Duties

  • Develop and maintain detailed construction programmes for large-scale fire protection projects, breaking them down into clear, manageable phases
  • Monitor project progress against programme, identifying deviations and working proactively with site and project teams to get things back on track
  • Liaise and negotiate effectively with contractors and suppliers to align timelines and resource requirements
  • Prepare and issue regular progress reports, forecasts, and programme updates for internal stakeholders, clients, and senior leadership
  • Use project management tools and software to maintain accurate, up-to-date project records and schedules
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks throughout the lifecycle of each scheme
  • Investigate the root causes of delays or deviations and implement corrective measures to minimise impact
  • Write and contribute to bids and tenders, providing accurate planning input and programme narratives
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of site processes, associated costs, and relevant construction and safety standards
  • Gather and act on feedback from site teams regarding planning adequacy, making continuous improvements where needed
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior planners, supporting their development and ensuring consistency of approach across projects
  • Collaborate closely with estimators, engineers, surveyors, and architects to ensure the programme reflects all project requirements
  • Keep all key stakeholders, including clients, informed on project status, milestones, and any issues that may affect delivery

Candidate Skill Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Construction Planner, ideally within fire protection, M&E, or a related building services environment.
  • Strong proficiency in planning software such as Primavera P6, Asta Powerproject, or Microsoft Project. WBS codings and logic where required.
  • Solid understanding of construction methodology, sequencing, and contract management.
  • Experience managing project budgets and producing cashflow forecasts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to varied audiences.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with NEC (particularly the submission requirements & timing) & JCT contract forms.
  • Production of Impacted programmes in the pusuit of claims/Compensation Event Assessments with time impacts.
