Offending Behaviour Programme Facilitators work in group and one-to-one formats to deliver Accredited Programmes designed to reduce risk of reoffending. Accredited Programmes help participants to understand their thinking and behaviours, build positive relationships, improve critical thinking skills and support them to live an offence‑free future. The role is part of a small team, providing a rehabilitative service with the ambition of reducing re‑offending. The post holder will deliver assessments, activities, and group sessions, contributing to wider rehabilitative activity within the prison. The role is non‑operational, prisoner‑facing with no line‑management responsibilities, based in HMP Millsike.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Deliver programmes in a group or individual basis, following a manual and delivering as designed.
  • Organise materials for session delivery.
  • Plan sessions as per programme requirements and identify ways to deliver the sessions in a responsive way to meet the needs of participants.
  • Notify the Treatment Manager and other team members when sessions are unable to run, and complete missed session catch‑ups.
  • Identify and actively recruit future programme participants, completing assessments, screening tools whilst maintaining an accurate database of outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of assessments and contact with prisoners.
  • Conduct motivational interviews with prisoners with the aim to engage them in programmes.
  • Continuously motivate and engage current, future and past participants.
  • Complete post‑session de‑briefs and record accurately any key information from the sessions.
  • Complete post‑programme tasks including writing a record of progress, setting objectives, contributing to post‑programme reviews and communicating progress with the sentence management team for each participant.
  • Actively engage in sentence management by liaising with prison and community Offender Managers.
  • Work towards the delivery guidelines outlined within the quality assurance framework, supported by the Treatment Manager.
  • Actively engage in supervision provided by the Treatment Manager and Psychology Team.
  • Engage in continual professional development opportunities supported by your line manager.
  • Deliver awareness packages to other staff in the establishment.

Person Specification

  • Current Accredited Programme delivery experience in either a community or custodial setting.
  • Strong organisational skills and team‑working abilities.
  • Experience working within the Criminal Justice, Social Care or Secure Environment sectors.
  • A strong understanding of social and interpersonal challenges that might lead an individual to offend.
  • An understanding of Psychological/Criminological theory.
  • Knowledge and understanding of group dynamics and the ability to motivate groups and individuals to participate fully in programmes.
  • Experience in motivational interviewing and challenging inappropriate language and behaviour.
  • Experience in supporting others and the ability to support staff in professional practice.
  • Intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and updating central data systems.
  • Excellent verbal skills to interact and communicate with a diverse range of individuals.
  • The ability to undertake assessed, external training events to achieve accreditation.
