This is an exciting and new role within the prison and a fundamental part of Mitie's vision for establishing a restorative and rehabilitative culture at HMP Millsike for both staff and prisoners. The role is psychology-based and focuses on applying the principles of learning and behaviour to support individuals to make meaningful changes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying measurable goals and implementing evidence-based interventions to develop new skills and reduce challenging behaviours.
  • Assessing and interpreting the functionality of specific behaviours and creating strategies and plans to reduce or minimise them.
  • Supporting prison staff and prisoners to understand behaviour dynamics and to engage with the prison regime.
  • Targeting disruptive behaviours, violence, self-harm and behaviours associated with personality disorders.
  • Collaborating with the psychology team to inform and support operational staff in the care and management of complex behaviours.

Person Specification:

  • Registered and certified with a professional body such as UK-SBA or BCBA.
  • Recognised qualification: MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis or MSc in Behaviour Analysis and Therapy.
  • Completion of UK-SBA Supervision and Competence Standards is preferred.
  • Experience in a custodial, secure or challenging behaviour environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for co-creating support plans with operational staff and other service providers.
  • Skills in risk assessment, working within multi-disciplinary teams, pro-activity, training and upskilling staff, and enabling staff to implement care plans.
  • Experience in developing support plans to encourage positive behaviour and working in a multi-disciplinary setting is preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining CPD necessary to retain certification throughout employment with Mitie.
