We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team delivering complex mechanical installations across plantrooms, energy centres, and large-scale decarbonisation projects. The role involves estimating works that include heat pumps, chillers, gas boilers, distribution pipework, thermal stores, and associated mechanical plant for public and private-sector clients.
Main Duties
- Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for plantrooms, energy centres, and decarbonisation schemes, including heat pump systems, chiller installations, and boiler plant upgrades.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents to produce accurate take-offs and cost breakdowns.
- Develop tender packages, including labour, materials, subcontractor elements, preliminaries, and risk allowances.
- Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations and validate technical compliance.
- Assess project risks, constraints, and opportunities, providing clear commercial recommendations.
- Work closely with design, project management, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between estimate, scope, and delivery strategy.
- Support value engineering exercises, identifying cost-effective alternatives without compromising performance or compliance.
- Prepare tender clarifications, technical submissions, and bid documentation for client review.
- Attend site visits and tender meetings to understand project conditions and client expectations.
- Maintain an up-to-date cost database for mechanical plant, materials, and labour relevant to energy‑efficient and low‑carbon technologies.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator within building services, M&E contracting, or energy‑infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical plant, including the ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of tendering processes.
- Proficient with estimating software, Excel, and digital take‑off tools.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence engaging with suppliers, consultants, and clients.
- Knowledge of low‑carbon technologies, energy‑efficiency measures, and decarbonisation strategies is highly desirable.
- HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Relevant industry experience within M&E contracting or energy‑infrastructure environments.
