Mitie Care + Custody are recruiting a Detainee Custody Officer - Physical Education Instructor to support the safe, secure and professional delivery of physical education and regime activities within our custodial environment.
The Role
- You will supervise and deliver structured physical activities within sports halls, gyms and courtyards, ensuring the safety, security, wellbeing and dignity of residents at all times.
- Acting as both a Detainee Custody Officer and PE Instructor, you will promote positive behaviour, encourage participation and deliver meaningful activities that support physical and mental wellbeing while meeting contractual, legal and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and deliver physical education and recreational activities in a safe and secure environment
- Engage, motivate and manage residents professionally, fairly and respectfully
- Organise and promote events, activities and competitions
- Maintain high standards of security, safety and resident welfare
- Safely use, store and manage equipment and materials
- Deal confidently with inappropriate behaviour, incidents and emergencies
- Complete accurate documentation and communicate effectively with colleagues
- Support wider regime activities and contribute to a positive custodial culture
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification (essential)
- Experience in sport, fitness or activity-based environments (desirable)
- Confident working with diverse groups and managing challenging behaviour
- Calm, resilient and professional with strong communication skills
- Committed to equality, dignity, safety and Mitie values
- Willing to complete all mandatory training
