This is a fantastic opportunity to join a successful security company who specialise in Security / Access Control Systems to some of the UK's largest Utility companies across the UK, to join as a Design Manager and help to develop the business during an exciting phase of growth.
The Civils Design Manager is responsible for leading and managing all civil design activities across multiple projects, ensuring designs are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
The role provides technical leadership, coordinates multidisciplinary design teams, and ensures the successful integration of civil engineering solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Competencies
- Proven experience in management and leadership qualities
- Track record in civil design
- Qualified civil engineer is preferred
- Strong knowledge of design codes, standards and regulations
- Experience in design management, project controls and engineering governance
- Knowledge or experience in utilities, security and or other highly regulated industries is essential
- Previous knowledge and design experience on National Grid and either NGT or Cadent is preferred
- Role & Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, development, review, and delivery of civil engineering designs for company projects.
- Manage internal and external design resources, consultants, and engineering partners.
- Establish design strategies, standards, and procedures to ensure consistency and quality across projects.
- Review and approve design deliverables, calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
- Support project teams from concept development through detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
- Monitor design progress against project schedules and budgets.
- Identify design risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with project objectives.
- Mentor and develop civil engineers, designers, and technical staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, safety, and continuous improvement.
