Major Projects Director

G2 Energy is looking for an experienced Project Manager specialising in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Major Projects Director will oversee the implementation of a multi-gigawatt portfolio and manage multiple BESS projects concurrently. The role requires substantial expertise in Project Management, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field and at least 5 years dedicated to BESS projects. The position may involve line management of a team of Project Managers and providing leadership to the project team.

Responsibilities

• Manage major project delivery to meet key programme milestones and employer deliverables in line with company procedures and best practice.
• Ensure the major project delivery team and individual projects are suitably resourced in line with workload and budget.
• Proactively manage, coach, mentor and develop team members to enhance growth, technical skills and knowledge.
• Approve scope of works, the plan and the target cost for each element of the project assigned to the PM.
• Provide clear leadership to the project team and control activities against budget.
• Ensure safe management and system of work are deployed by all personnel involved; establish effective construction site controls.
• Seek opportunities to optimise the resource plan with other senior managers; drive performance and improve delivery methods; maintain a professional and consistent approach for major projects.
• Support commercial cost controls and manage profit and loss to agreed margins in collaboration with the commercial team.
• Own and drive the Major Projects company procedures and continuous improvement.
• Establish working relationships with senior client representatives to ensure efficient project delivery.
• Conduct site inspections as appropriate and benchmark quality.
• Manage safety, health and environmental matters in accordance with policy, guidelines and statutory legislation; conduct regular safety audits and assist with risk assessments and investigations as required.
• Produce regular reports to the G2 Senior Leadership Team including KPIs and progress against business objectives.
• Demonstrate effective SHE leadership and promote a proactive safety culture; manage safety throughout lifecycle designs to minimise risk to personnel.
• Ensure company HR policies and procedures are implemented within the function and that direct reports are regularly reviewed.

Qualifications / Person Specification

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel and Project.
• Extensive experience in project management; formal training and/or qualifications in project management.
• Min 5 years electrical experience within project management on 132 kV networks.
• Electrical qualification (HNC/HND minimum); degree in electrical engineering or related discipline is desirable.
• Experience with SAP up to 33 kV is desirable.
• Good written, verbal and presentation skills; self-motivated, able to motivate staff to meet tight deadlines.
• Supportive team player capable of engaging with technical and commercially oriented staff across levels.
• Excellent influencing and communication skills; versatile, adaptable, and willing to impart skills to others.
• Demonstrates impeccable ethics and integrity.
