Job Overview
Detention Custody Officer (DCO) – Immigration Services – France (Coquelles, Calais, Dunkirk). Salary: £32,634 per annum. Hours: 42 per week on a 4‑on / 4‑off rotating shift pattern. The role requires you to remain in France during each 4‑on shift; no travel back to the UK is allowed during that period. Accommodation, meals and travel are provided.
Responsibilities
Work in a holding room and ensure the safety and security of residents in your custody.
Manage interactions with a wide variety of people who may be agitated, confused or angry, using a respectful and caring approach.
Complete a 4‑week initial training course followed by ongoing development and on‑the‑job mentoring.
Qualifications
- UK citizen, Commonwealth citizen with your own indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage) or EEA citizen.
- Valid, in‑date passport with no restrictions on stay in the UK.
- Continuously resided in the UK for the previous 3 years with no more than 3 months spent overseas at any one time.
- Over 21 years of age.
- Full UK manual driving licence with at least 12 months qualifying experience; fewer than 7 points; no driving ban in the last 12 months.
- Not currently bankrupt.
- Successful candidates will undergo Enhanced DBS and Counter‑Terrorist Checked (CTC) vetting; the position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
Training & Development
After selection and vetting, you will begin a 4‑week initial training course (ITC). Over the next 12 months you will receive on‑the‑job mentoring and assessments to achieve an accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.
