The Pipefitter Installer is responsible for the installation, modification, and maintenance of mechanical pipework systems across leisure facilities, healthcare environments, and data centres. The role involves working within energy centres and plantrooms, carrying out plate heat exchanger replacements, and installing or upgrading systems involving traditional gas boilers and modern low‑carbon technologies such as heat pumps.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and test pipework systems including LTHW, CHW, DHW, and boosted cold‑water services within commercial and industrial environments.
  • Work within energy centres and plantrooms, ensuring safe and efficient installation of mechanical plant and associated pipework.
  • Carry out plate heat exchanger swap‑outs, including isolation, removal, installation, and recommissioning.
  • Install and modify systems involving traditional gas boilers, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and site safety standards.
  • Install and support heat pump systems, including integration with existing plant and hydraulic circuits.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications to deliver accurate installations.
  • Perform pipefitting tasks such as cutting, threading, grooving, welding, soldering, brazing, and mechanical jointing.
  • Conduct pressure testing and system commissioning to verify integrity and performance.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other trades to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, particularly in sensitive environments such as hospitals and data centres.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during installation or refurbishment works.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a pipefitter, mechanical installer, or commercial plumber in large‑scale or complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of commercial heating and cooling systems, including boilers, heat pumps, and heat exchangers.
  • Competence in steel, copper, and plastic pipework systems.
  • Ability to work from technical drawings and method statements.
  • Experience working in live environments (e.g., healthcare or data centres) with strict safety and operational protocols.
  • Knowledge of building services, energy centres, and plantroom layouts.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services / Plumbing & Heating (or equivalent).
