Mitie is investing heavily in its engineering capability across one of the Midlands' largest and most complex healthcare estates and we're looking for an exceptional Engineering Lead - Electrical to become the recognised technical authority for critical electrical systems at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire. This is a rare opportunity for a highly experienced engineer who wants to remain technically hands‑on whilst taking responsibility for solving complex engineering challenges, influencing technical standards and helping shape the future of critical engineering services. Working within a Major Trauma Centre operating 24/7, you'll be the person colleagues turn to when systems fail, faults become complex and engineering expertise really matters.
The Opportunity
As the recognised electrical subject matter expert for the estate, you'll provide technical leadership across a diverse range of critical infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, safety and compliance of systems that directly support patient care. This is a technical leadership role rather than a people management position, making it ideal for an engineer who enjoys remaining close to the operation whilst being recognised for their expertise.
What You'll Be Doing
- Acting as the senior electrical technical specialist across a complex acute healthcare estate.
- Leading the diagnosis and resolution of complex electrical faults affecting critical infrastructure.
- Providing technical leadership for HV and LV distribution systems, standby generation, UPS systems and critical power supplies.
- Holding Authorised Person (AP) responsibilities and supporting safe systems of work across the estate.
- Supporting lifecycle projects, asset replacement programmes and engineering improvements.
- Coaching and developing engineering teams through technical mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Working closely with Trust stakeholders, Authorising Engineers and specialist contractors.
- A recognised electrical apprenticeship and relevant electrical engineering qualifications.
- Significant experience within complex, safety-critical environments.
- Current or previous Authorised Person (AP) status, ideally HV and/or LV.
- Strong experience of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Proven fault-finding and problem-solving expertise.
- 18th Edition and Inspection & Testing qualifications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions at all levels.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working to HTM guidance or equivalent MOD engineering standards.
- Healthcare, PFI or other critical environment experience.
- Standby generation, UPS and critical power resilience experience.
- Asbestos awareness qualifications.
- IOSH, NEBOSH or similar health and safety training.
