Purpose
Provide and maintain a high-quality Aviation security service to our customer, partners, end users at the working location. To be delivered in line with our standard operating procedures and customer requirements in order to protect the customer's employees, property and other assets. To deliver the highest levels of customer service which consistently demonstrate Securitas' core values of Integrity, Vigilance and Helpfulness
Responsibilities:
Daily Routine and Tasks:
The list below describes the typical routines you will be expected to undertake on a daily basis, but this list is not exhaustive. We want to foster a setting of continuous improvement in the overall customer environment and to this end your duties and responsibilities may require you to contribute to other site-based functions.
Required to perform various tasks, such as:
- Operation of x-ray machines, physical inspection of baggage and people.
- Responsible for using X-Ray machines to identifying dangerous objects in baggage/wings and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
- Maintain focus and awareness within an environment containing numerous distractions, people, and noise.
- Work within a demanding environment, which includes noise from alarms, machinery, people, distractions, time pressure and the requirement to identify and locate potentially life-threatening devices and devices intended on creating massive destruction.
- Make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.
- Any other duties as directed by the Aviation Supervisor, Aviation Service Delivery Manager or National Operations Manager.
Your typical daily routine will consist of:
- Carrying out access control duties ensuring only authorised personnel and vehicles enter the Security Restricted Area (SRA).
- X-Raying items to ensure that only authorised goods enter the SRA.
- Carrying out screening of all persons entering the restricted area which can and will include hand searching of persons and hand searching items that have raised concern.
- Carrying out hand/visual search of goods entering the SRA.
- Carrying out vehicle searches on all vehicles entering the SRA.
- Carrying out physical passenger body searches, baggage observation and aircraft observation identification checking.
- Passenger document checking and catering supply searching.
- To control entry/exit at gates/doorways/other control posts by;
Checking ID cards, tickets, passes and other documentation of staff, passengers and other personnel.
Checking documentation of vehicles, cargoes, drivers, passengers and other personnel.
- To control vehicular traffic in operational and other specified areas, including the prevention of unauthorised vehicle parking.
- To prevent unauthorised entry to and exit from buildings, aircraft and other specified areas.
- To undertake patrols on foot and or vehicle of operational, terminal and other building installations, car parks, boundaries and other specified areas. To be responsible for alarm systems and the security of specified buildings.
- To carry out regular searches of passengers, baggage, vehicles, aircraft, building and other specified areas.
- To escort and ensure safety of VIPs, other persons, vehicle and high value cargoes to specific locations within the airport.
- To liaise with and summon assistance from Police, Immigration and other emergency services as necessary.
- To take appropriate action in accordance with established emergency procedures (including those procedures relating to Mitie Security Services (UK) Ltd March 2016 Suspicious Articles).
- To maintain a log of all incidents requiring investigation and to submit reports on incidents.
- To use radio/telephone, other specified communications and monitoring systems and to operate control room equipment.
- To drive and maintain vehicles.
- To advise and assist passengers and members of the public on general enquiries and to provide assistance to disabled passengers.
- To use appropriate devices for detection and security purposes.
- To use as appropriate the citizens power of arrest.
- To have a sound knowledge of, and be able to implement, Airport Byelaws and to deal with offenders.
- Checking seals and paperwork on any items entering from a Regulated Agent (RA) or Known Consigner (KC).
- Conforming to departmental Standing Operating Procedures, Assignment Instructions, Temporary Operating Instructions and Risk Assessments.
- Adhering to the communication requirements, records of delivery, and maintenance of all other databases ensuring quality of data input.
- Ensuring that activities are correctly recorded, reported and documented utilising the Airbus approved reporting procedure and to produce high quality reports (verbal and written).
- Achieving and encouraging a high standard of Customer Care, setting a high standard of conduct with Airbus Employees, Tenants and other third parties and stakeholders.
- Ensuring all Client Service Level Agreements (CLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved and promoting a positive and professional image of Mitie.
- Any duties as directed by the Aviation Service Delivery Manager, Aviation Security Supervisor and/or the Airbus Security Management team.

Your commitment and attitude to safety is critical. You will be required to adhere to all safety and security protocols and principles across the customer site and ensure your teams do the same. You must always behave in a way that keeps yourself and others safe and set expectation of the same high standard from your team.

Dress and appearance must be appropriate to the role and activity you are undertaking. The company recognises the right to individual expression. Physical Elements of the role
- The Aviation Security Officer role is a physical one, with an average level of fitness and must be maintained.
- It is a requirement of Airbus to complete an airside driving medical every 3 years.
- The company must be informed of any prescribed medication likely to affect your performance whilst at work and operates a robust Drugs and Alcohol policy. Refer to the Mitie Staff Handbook for additional information or speak to your Line Manager.
The environment in which you will be working;
- You could be working for prolonged periods in relatively climatic changing environments.
- You will be required to work permanent days or nights shift pattern subject to the role applied for (discuss at interview stage) and you may be required to stay late at short notice should the circumstances require it, for example where an aircraft arrival or departure is delayed.
- You will work constructively and proactively with a variety of teams and departments within customer, combined with external organisations. You will be expected to seek opportunities to work collaboratively with other teams, to model respectful and helpful behaviours.
COMPETENCIES - ESSENTIAL - these are the skills, knowledge or experience you must have to do the job
Previous experience is desirable and likely to have been gained in an armed service, civil police and/or Airport environment. The post-holder is required to be educated to a satisfactory standard, physically fit, well presented and hold a current driving licence that is free of endorsement. Colour deficiency test (must be able to clearly define colours to interpret X-Ray) will be carried out at interview
5-year background check will be carried out on all candidates and you will need to provide a Criminal Record Check when requested
Successful candidates will be required to, or be provided with the following Regulated Agent (CSO)- NASP Access control / Aircraft Search and Protection, - NXCT Cargo certification and - Recognition of Firearms and Explosives
Literacy assessment (required to complete Flight reports/ Incident reports and Security declarations)
