Environment, Health & Safety Specialist
Worthing, West Sussex | 18-Month Fixed Term Contract
Please note: This is a predominantly site-based role located in Worthing, West Sussex.
Are you an experienced EHS professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact within a highly regulated manufacturing environment?
We're recruiting for an Environment, Health & Safety Specialist to join a specialist EHS team on a major pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Worthing. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with senior stakeholders, influence site-wide safety performance, and play a key role in supporting significant capital investment and infrastructure projects.
This is a highly visible position reporting into the site's EHS Director, with a particular focus on Construction Safety, Demolition Activities, Environmental Compliance, and Contractor Management.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the site's Construction Safety programme and driving continuous improvement across multiple projects.
- Providing expert guidance on construction, demolition, contractor safety, permits to work, and risk management.
- Supporting environmental compliance activities including energy, water, waste, wastewater and sustainability initiatives.
- Conducting audits, inspections and compliance reviews across EHS programmes.
- Partnering with engineering, operations and project teams to ensure safe delivery of capital projects.
- Reviewing and approving RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and associated project documentation.
- Supporting incident investigations, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Building EHS capability through coaching, training and engagement with employees and contractors.
- Acting as a key point of contact for regulators, auditors and senior site stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from candidates who bring a strong combination of environmental, health & safety and construction safety expertise gained within a regulated or high-hazard environment.
You Should Have
- NEBOSH qualification or equivalent in Health & Safety, Construction Safety or Environmental Management.
- Degree qualification in Engineering, Science, Environmental, Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Experience working within manufacturing, process, pharmaceutical, FMCG, utilities, chemical, energy or other high-risk industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of contractor management, CDM, construction and demolition safety practices.
- Experience supporting engineering, maintenance, utilities, reliability or capital project teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- The ability to lead audits, investigations and compliance programmes.
Desirable
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing experience.
- Chartered status within a relevant discipline.
- Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) qualification.
- Experience supporting Net Zero, sustainability or environmental compliance programmes.
