The Apprentice Civil CAD Technician will support the engineering team in producing technical drawings and design documentation for security infrastructure projects. While undertaking a recognised apprenticeship programme, the successful candidate will develop practical skills in computer-aided design (CAD), civil engineering, and security systems design.
The role offers the opportunity to gain experience working on projects involving perimeter security, fencing and other specialist security solutions for utilities and critical national infrastructure clients.
The apprentice will be based at our offices in Matfen, Newcastle Upon Tyne NE20 0RQ.
Key Responsibilities
CAD & Design Support
- Assist in the production of technical drawings using AutoCAD and other design software.
- Amend and update drawings under the guidance of senior engineers and CAD technicians.
- Learn to interpret technical specifications, site surveys, and engineering information.
Engineering Support
- Support engineers and project teams with design-related tasks.
- Assist in the preparation of design packages and technical documentation.
- Review site information and survey data for use in design development.
- Help coordinate drawing information between engineering disciplines.
- Learn the principles of civil engineering design relating to security infrastructure.
Training & Development
- Complete all apprenticeship coursework and assessments in accordance with programme requirements.
- Develop knowledge of:
- Civil engineering fundamentals
- Construction methods
- Security infrastructure systems
- Engineering standards and best practices
Quality, Health & Safety
- Follow all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Support compliance with design quality standards and document control requirements.
- Learn how to identify and report hazards associated with engineering and construction activities.
- Ensure work is completed accurately and to company standards.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent), including:
- Mathematics (Grade 4/C or above)
- English Language (Grade 4/C or above)
- Interest in engineering, construction, design, or technical subjects.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Qualifications
- A-Level, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction, Design Technology, Maths, or a related subject.
- Previous experience using CAD software through education or personal projects.

- Enthusiastic and motivated learner.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Organised and reliable approach to work.
