Mitie is hiring a Security Relief Cover Officer to protect hospital sites, help clinical teams, and ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and NHS staff.
As a Relief Officer, you will serve as the vital operational backbone across assigned healthcare facilities, adapting quickly to different wards, access points, and emergency situations.
The Role
- Site Security & Rapid Response
- Patrol internal wards, grounds, and sensitive clinical areas.
- Monitor CCTV operations and conduct perimeter checks.
- Respond rapidly, calmly, and professionally to clinical emergencies, fire alarms, and security alerts.
- Patient, Visitor & Staff Care
- Act as a visible, reassuring presence at entrances, emergency departments, and reception desks.
- De-escalate high-tension or emotionally charged situations using conflict management techniques (full specialist training provided).
- Provide clear directions, compassionate assistance, and support to vulnerable individuals.
- Operational & Relief Coverage
- Step into frontline static, patrol, and response posts across local healthcare facilities to cover planned leave and urgent operational needs.
- Maintain comprehensive, auditable incident logs and handovers in line with healthcare trust compliance.
- What We Are Looking For
- Licensing: A valid, current SIA Door Supervisor Licence (essential).
- Flexibility: Willingness to work a varied relief rota of 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends across assigned local hospital sites.
- Mobility: A full UK driving licence and own transport is highly beneficial for travelling between assigned sites.
- Communication: Excellent verbal de-escalation skills, empathy, and the ability to stay composed under pressure.
- Vetting: Ability to pass standard 5-year security screening and an enhanced DBS check.
