Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) aims to create a restorative environment at HMP Millsike where prisoners unlock their potential and re‑enter society with hope and purpose.

This role provides an opportunity to impact reoffending through behaviour change and rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

This role offers an exciting opportunity to assist in reducing reoffending by supporting behaviour change in prisoners.

At HMP Millsike, you will work in a vibrant environment focused on rehabilitation, restoration, and resettlement through a risk‑informed approach.

Based in the Offender Management Unit (OMU), you will handle all aspects of a prisoner's case, including risk management, parole applications, and sentence planning.

As a Non‑operational Prison Offender Manager (POM) you will manage and assess low to medium‑risk prisoners, creating and evaluating their sentence plans to reduce reoffending.

This non‑operational role requires no line management responsibilities.

You will engage regularly with prisoners, maintaining open communication and prioritising face‑to‑face interactions.

The OMU is fast‑paced and liaises with internal and external agencies such as courts, police, and probation services.

Mandatory training will be provided to enable you to perform this specialist role effectively.

Qualifications

  • Intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook, and experience updating central data systems.
  • Ability to analyse complex information to make informed assessments and decisions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, essential for interactions with prisoners, professionals and during hearings such as Parole Boards.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating work.
  • Self‑confidence and ability to understand and assess risk, especially in relation to offending behaviour risk.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training such as OASYS – Offender Assessment System.
  • Resilience and ability to think on your feet.
  • Capacity to work efficiently under pressure and maintain a positive problem‑solving approach.
  • Organisational skills and adaptability to legislative and procedural change.
  • Team player with empathy and ability to engage constructively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to completing all mandatory training and engaging in continuous learning.
