We're looking for an experienced Authorising Engineer (HV/LV) to provide independent technical authority across our data centre and critical environment operations throughout the UK. You'll play a key role in ensuring the safe management of high and low voltage systems, supporting operational resilience, statutory compliance and industry-leading safety standards.
Role Responsibilities
- Act as the independent technical authority for HV/LV electrical systems, ensuring safe switching, isolation, maintenance and restoration activities across critical environments.
- Lead the assessment, appointment and ongoing review of Authorised Persons (APs), maintaining authorisation records and ensuring competency, training and governance requirements are met.
- Implement and oversee Mitie's Authorisation Procedures, Safe Systems of Work and electrical safety standards, providing technical support and guidance to operational teams.
- Conduct audits, compliance reviews and technical assurance activities, investigating incidents, identifying risks and driving continuous improvement across electrical safety performance.
- Provide expert advice to management on electrical safety, resilience, legislation, industry best practice and resource requirements, ensuring safe and compliant service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Extensive HV/LV operational experience within data centres, critical environments or high-availability infrastructure.
- Previous experience as an Authorising Engineer, Senior Authorised Person or within a similar electrical governance role.

- Strong knowledge of Electricity at Work Regulations, BS 7671, permit-to-work systems and electrical safety rules.
- Experience conducting audits, competency assessments, risk reviews and incident investigations.
- Confidence to challenge unsafe practices and make independent, evidence-based decisions.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage operational teams, clients and senior stakeholders.
- Flexibility to travel throughout the UK to support audits, assurance activities and incident response.
