Rate of Pay: £17.00 per hour

Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time

Total Weekly Contractual Hours: 37.5 (Saturday to Thursday – 10PM to 6AM)

Location: The Scottish Parliament, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh, Scotland, EH99 1SP

Duties and Responsibilities

The role involves ensuring that all aspects of the cleaning service are carried out and maintained to the required standard, along with conducting compliance audits and inspections of internal cleaning standards and documentation. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out nightly checks to confirm that all tasks have been completed, maintaining the highest standards of health and safety culture on site, and driving continuous improvements in site cleaning standards. Additionally, the role requires providing training and raising awareness among all nightshift staff regarding procedures relevant to their roles. The role also involves inducting and developing new employees, ensuring they are properly onboarded and supported in their roles, communicating effectively with all team members, fostering an environment that encourages feedback and two‑way communication, and participating in projects as requested to drive continuous improvement across operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting new employees through induction and training to ensure they consistently deliver high‑quality cleaning standards.
  • Checking cleaning standards throughout the night and at final handover, ensuring they meet client requirements.
  • Overseeing correct use and storage of PPE, setting housekeeping standards for the team, and escalating failures accordingly.
  • Monitoring safe use of chemicals, ensuring proper handling and storage.
  • Supporting the Account Manager in investigations and disciplinary processes, completing training records, and maintaining audit readiness.
  • Completing daily, weekly, and periodic sign‑off sheets each morning during the shift.
  • Working with the Account Manager to set up training and performance improvement plans, and plan & execute periodic cleans.
  • Monitoring staff levels during the shift, escalating issues, and working on cover plans to ensure effective deployment.
  • Motivating and leading the team by example, conducting start‑of‑shift briefings (huddles).
  • Completing daily Manager handover form and checklist.
  • Managing Concept calls and allocating tasks to ensure smooth operations.

Key Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all employees work safely and comply with documentation and procedures.
  • Handling chemicals correctly per COSHH assessments and proper use of PPE.
  • Cooperating fully with employer on health & safety matters, maintaining a safe environment.
  • Reporting, investigating, and following through on accidents, incidents, near misses, using Accident & Incident Report Forms.
  • Conducting regular inspections of health and safety systems, equipment, PPE, and working practices to maintain a safe environment.
  • Informing the client of inadequacies, malfunctions, or design issues to improve safety.
  • Ensuring only trained and certified staff are deployed for specific activities.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous supervisory experience is desired; flexible approach, team player, and capable of working independently.
  • Reliability and trustworthiness are essential; ability to work required shift pattern as needed.
  • Ability to undertake any related duties within capability as directed by the Account Manager and in line with business needs.
  • Openness to training, personal development, and willingness to continuously improve processes.
