As an Apprentice, you will:

  • Develop the skills and knowledge to carry out a range of internal and external painting and decorating tasks, including surface preparation, finishing techniques and minor repairs to walls, ceilings, woodwork and other structures.
  • Support planned maintenance programmes and assist with reactive repair and refurbishment work across hospital facilities.
  • Work alongside experienced painters, decorators and facilities professionals to gain valuable hands‑on experience in a live healthcare environment.
  • Learn how to select and use materials, tools and equipment safely and effectively to achieve high‑quality finishes.
  • Follow Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) standards at all times, helping to create safe, clean and welcoming spaces for patients, visitors and staff.

Qualifications

  • A keen interest in your chosen field.
  • The ability to think critically and find solutions.
  • Dedication to completing your apprenticeship and growing with Mitie.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 4–9 or equivalent) or Scottish National 5 certificates (Grade A–C). Certificates must be provided at the interview stage.

Apprenticeship Details

As a Painting and Decorating Apprentice you will be enrolled onto a Level 2 Painting & Decorating qualification, typically lasting two years. You will receive 1–2–1 advice, e‑learning materials and support from our dedicated Apprenticeship Team.
