About The Role
As the Head of Strategy and Transformation, you will lead the strategic development and delivery of Mitie's waste management initiatives, playing a pivotal role in driving innovative solutions that align with our sustainability objectives. You will oversee the operational and contractual optimisation of waste management projects, including the delivery of mini-MRFs (Material Recovery Facilities) and other impactful initiatives, ensuring lasting value for clients and their stakeholders. This senior leadership position will enable you to shape the future of waste management practices while fostering innovation, collaboration, and efficiency across our organisation.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Team Development: Provide visionary leadership, managing and mentoring a team of waste management professionals to deliver excellence across projects. Promote a culture of continuous development, offering targeted training, proactive guidance, and support to enhance the skillsets of the operational team. Establish and maintain adherence to safety guidelines, legislative compliance, and Good Practice.
- Project Delivery and Optimisation: Oversee the strategic planning and execution of waste management projects, including the design and delivery of mini-MRFs and other innovative initiatives, ensuring projects meet and exceed clients' sustainability and operational goals. Manage full lifecycle project delivery, including defining requirements, planning milestones, tracking progress, and managing budgets. Identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery on time and within budget.
- Contracts and Stakeholder Management: Develop and lead strategies to optimise waste management contracts, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with organisational priorities. Collaborate extensively with internal teams, contractors, and waste service providers, fostering strong and productive working relationships. Provide expert guidance to maximise the value of contract negotiations, partnerships, and market engagement.
- Innovation and Strategy Development: Identify, evaluate, and implement cutting-edge waste management practices and technologies to support clients' sustainability objectives and maintain industry-leading standards. Drive the delivery of innovative waste reduction strategies, enabling improvements in efficiency and resource utilisation.
- Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly assess waste management performance, producing comprehensive reports that highlight progress, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Deliver clear updates and recommendations to senior leadership teams on waste strategy innovation initiatives and their impact.
- Industry Representation and Continuous Improvement: Attend industry events, conferences, and meetings to remain informed on emerging trends in waste management and circular economy practices. Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the operational team, advocating for excellence and forward-thinking innovation.
Qualifications And Experience
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role focused on waste management contract optimisation, or a related field.
- Strong track record of successfully managing complex projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery, effective stakeholder management, and budgetary compliance.
- Expertise in waste reduction strategies, sustainability principles, and innovative resource management tools.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to managing risks and driving efficiency.
- Knowledge of circular economy principles and emerging waste management technologies.
- Industry-related qualifications or certifications in waste management, contract management, or sustainability.
