Head of Media Relations
Are you a strategic storyteller with a sharp news sense and a passion for protecting and promoting brand reputation? Mitie is looking for a Head of Media Relations to lead our press office and shape how we show up in the media. This is a high‑impact role at the heart of our Corporate Affairs team, where you’ll drive proactive and reactive media strategies that elevate our voice, support commercial goals, and build trust with external audiences.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead media strategy, delivering high‑quality coverage in national, regional, and trade press that aligns with business priorities.
- Run the press office, managing media enquiries with speed, accuracy, and strategic insight.
- Build strong media relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers who matter.
- Manage reputational risk, preparing for and responding to issues with confidence and clarity, including out‑of‑hours support when needed.
- Craft compelling content, from press releases to media briefings that reflect Mitie’s voice and values.
- Advise senior leaders, offering strategic counsel on media engagement and public positioning.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent messaging with marketing, internal communications, and other key stakeholders.
- Measure impact, analyse media coverage, and refine strategies to maximise performance.
- Champion the function, reporting on success and mentoring team members to build capability.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven track record in senior external communications, ideally in complex or regulated environments.
- Expertise in issues and crisis management, with sound judgement under pressure.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, able to simplify complex topics and tell powerful stories.
- Strong network of media contacts and a history of securing impactful coverage.
- Creative thinker with strategic insight to develop innovative communications solutions.
