Main Purpose of Role
We are looking for a dynamic, results-driven Head of Business Development reporting into the Managing Director with a proven track record in the electrical infrastructure, utilities, or related sectors. This individual will play a central role in accelerating our market growth, expanding our presence in target sectors, and driving long-term strategic success. You'll be responsible for defining and executing our business development strategy, building and nurturing key customer relationships, identifying new commercial opportunities, and leading a high-performing team spanning business development, marketing. To actively promote the company throughout the electrical construction industry (including 11kV, 33kV/132kV, Battery Storage, Solar Parks, Data Centres and other associated ICP/BOP projects) to improve the company's position in the marketplace with a view to generating profitable, sustainable growth. The Head of Business Development defines long-term goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals as well as managing the Business Development and Marketing team. The primary role is to identify new business opportunities that fit within the strategic development of the business. They must, where possible, build relationships with customers with a view to negotiating work rather than tender enquiries. Strategic planning is a must when targeting potential customers to do business with. The Head of Business Development must possess or efficiently obtain a thorough knowledge of the market as well as to understand fully the company's full range of skills and experience. Identify potential clients and the decision makers within that business through research and industry knowledge. Key Duties And Responsibilities
Team Leadership.
- Lead and manage the Business Development and Marketing team
- Set and monitor performance against SMART sales targets.
- Support the planning and execution of marketing initiatives, conferences, and customer-focused events.
- Maintain and update the customer database, ensuring all business development activity and sales leads are accurately recorded.
- Provide regular reports on sales performance, new opportunities, and business pipeline status.
- Contribute to business planning activities and review existing customer accounts for cross-sell and up-sell opportunities.
Client Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including developer, investor and end user clients.
- Present complex technical and commercial propositions in a clear, compelling manner to diverse audiences.
- Deliver ‘mould-breaking' propositions that differentiate the business and create long-term value.
- Champion the company's capabilities through the development of compelling case studies and success stories.
Other Skills
- The Head of Business Development will possess excellent communication and presentation skills and have the relevant sales experience in the wider sector.
- A good understanding of the Company's full range of offerings including technical capabilities as well as previous experience within the industry.
- Strong network of industry contacts and the ability to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including developer, investor and end user clients.
- Demonstrated track record of successfully identifying and closing business opportunities, meeting or exceeding sales targets.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a focus on market analysis, risk assessment, and opportunity evaluation. Regular updates of the sales enquiries and potential contract awards.
- Attend industry functions or conferences in support of the business target markets or customer driven opportunities.
Qualifications And Experience
- A proven sales leadership background in this or a related market is essential as well as excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience in being an integral part of a Senior Leadership team of a growing and dynamic business.
- The ability to lead on the definition and implementation of a defined sales and marketing strategy.
- To be highly motivated and self-driven to achieve challenging targets.
- To be well organised to manage time and priorities effectively to achieve deadlines.
- Good IT skills including report writing.
- Be able to demonstrate impeccable ethical and moral behaviour, coupled with unquestionable integrity and character.
