We are looking for a professional and adaptable Site Protection Officer (SPO) to provide exceptional security cover across a Marks & Spencer Distribution Centre in Hemel Hempstead. The role requires maintaining a safe working environment for staff, visitors and contractors, protecting company assets and ensuring consistent, high-quality service across all DCs. The position involves flexible shifts across days, nights and weekends, including short-notice coverage, and requires a full UK driving licence with reliable vehicle access.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide professional security cover across the M&S Distribution Centre.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service in line with Mitie and M&S key values.
  • Maintain professional standards of appearance, conduct and incident reporting.
  • Monitor access control systems, CCTV and vehicle movements in accordance with site procedures.
  • Conduct regular internal and external patrols to ensure site safety and security.
  • Support the prevention and investigation of theft, stock loss and unauthorised access.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to incidents, alarms and emergencies following site protocols.
  • Assist site management and permanent SPO teams to maintain smooth and compliant operations.
  • Work flexibly to meet operational requirements, including short-notice assignments.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and company security policies.

Person Specification

  • Literate and numerate with strong attention to detail and IT skills.
  • Professional appearance and high personal standards.
  • Adaptable, reliable and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm under pressure with a positive, “can-do” attitude.
  • Must hold a valid front-line SIA Licence.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Follow all Mitie and Group Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Report any hazards, risks or incidents immediately to your line manager.
  • Use all work equipment and personal PPE correctly and responsibly.
  • Identify and report any training or equipment needs promptly.
