Job Overview

Nuclear Security Officer – 4 on 4 off shift pattern (12‑hour shifts including Days & Nights – 2D & 2N). Current hourly rate £14.40 – £15.00 with an annual salary of £31,536 – £32,848 (average 42 hours). Working on public bank holidays, weekends and four consecutive off-days.

Responsibilities

  • Protect customers’ property, people and assets following site Assignment Instructions (AIs) and subsequent changes.
  • Respond to emergency situations and maintain the service level agreement.
  • Manage access and exit points: vehicle searches, pass verification and intelligence gathering.
  • Control and store contraband and prohibited items safely.
  • Conduct thorough internal and external patrols using patrol vehicles and systems.
  • Accurately complete incident reports and daily occurrence logs.
  • Maintain awareness of and comply with all policies, legal and regulatory requirements as directed by the Security Account Manager and UK law.
  • Collaborate closely with the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and Cumbria Constabulary.
  • Review and update Assignment Instructions, proactively suggest improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with Security Industry Authority standards and client security policies.
  • Adhere to all legal and safety obligations, investigate incidents promptly.
  • Maintain vigilance at all times, report incidents via radio or telephone.
  • Be prepared for prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and direct interaction with visitors, indoors and outdoors.
  • Work in trace active areas as required by the site.
  • Complete mandatory training, competency assessments, and additional training as directed.
  • Use technology to achieve key objectives and expand job knowledge.
  • Stay alert to health and safety hazards, report immediately.
  • Use sound judgement and initiate action when a situation appears threatening.
  • Record detailed and accurate notes post-incident.
  • Adhere to schedules, demonstrate commitment to Mitie and the client.
  • Ensure call‑out times are observed, contact emergency services as required.

Qualifications

  • Previous security experience (desirable, not essential).
  • Security Industry Authority (SIA) license – provided if required.
  • Customer service experience (beneficial).
  • Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential.
  • Security Clearance – SC, to be obtained as a condition of employment.
