Job Overview
We are currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Mailroom Operative to join our team at Mitie Defence, MOD Corsham. In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient collection, handling and distribution of mail and packages within the organisation by either foot or vehicle. You will also be required to complete general office administration tasks and assist with other tasks within the greater logistics department as and when required. The successful candidate will have to complete the required documentation for security clearance. This role would also suit ex-military personnel who worked in a mailroom.
Main Duties
- Providing an efficient post and courier service in line with contractual requirements, including the daily delivery and collection of mail in accordance with the SRD and handling all mail appropriately in line with relevant policies.
- Undertaking general administrative duties within the post room, such as operating the X-ray machine, providing cover during staff absences, and meeting and exchanging items with delivery companies including Royal Mail.
- Maintaining a clean and tidy work environment, completing any required training as agreed with the line manager, and carrying out any other reasonable tasks as directed.
- Escorting contractors and visitors when required, delivering excellent customer service with a high degree of integrity, and working effectively both independently and as part of a team using their own initiative.
- Self-motivation, punctuality, flexibility to undertake cross-training to support the department and site, and a willingness to work occasional overtime as needed.
Essential What we are looking for
- A full driving licence with the ability to drive Category B vehicles, including small vans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use role-specific IT systems.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with experience of working to deadlines and exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A good standard of English and Maths, together with a sound understanding of Health and Safety procedures.
Desirable
- Prior experience in mail delivery, along with experience of working in a Post Office or a military post room.
- An IOSH Working Safely qualification would be advantageous but is not essential, as professional training will be provided.
- Experience of working in a customer-focused environment.
