Job Overview
Act as the central electrical technical interface between design, construction, CDM, procurement, commissioning, and external stakeholders. Initially operate with direct local control of electrical delivery, surveys, reviews, and site support, with responsibility for commissioning, and for developing the electrical delivery team. The role expands into a formal ETDM function, providing consistent technical governance across multiple projects and workstreams.
Main Duties
- Lead Electrical Surveys & Grid Connections: Oversee electrical surveys, validate Point of Connection assessments, and identify constraints (capacity, earthing, protection, access) to ensure suitability for DNO/IDNO submission and design.
- Provide End-to-End Technical Support: Act as the electrical SME for projects, resolving RFIs, supporting construction teams, and managing commissioning, energisation, and fault resolution activities.
- Own Design Assurance & Compliance: Lead the design‑to‑construction review process, ensuring compliance with BS 7671, ENA/DNO standards, employer requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
- Ensure Safe & Buildable Designs: Review design changes, manage deviations, and confirm constructability and safe integration of electrical systems.
- Manage Contractors & Supply Chain Performance: Vet and approve electrical contractors, assess competencies and documentation (RAMS/ITPs), and monitor performance to drive compliance and continuous improvement.
- Oversee Materials & Technical Procurement: Approve equipment and material selections, ensure system compatibility, manage long‑lead items, and support FATs and technical inspections.
- Maintain NICEIC Compliance & Develop Capability: Oversee QS responsibilities and NICEIC compliance, ensure certification standards are met, manage non‑conformances, and lead training, mentoring, and continuous improvement of electrical teams.
Essential Qualifications
- Strong experience in electrical delivery within renewables or power infrastructure.
- In‑depth knowledge of BS 7671 and NICEIC requirements.
- Experience with grid‑connected systems and DNO processes.
- Ability to review and assure electrical designs and installations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and decision‑making capability.
- Latest amendment of the wiring regulations.
- NVQ level 3 in electrical installations (QCF level 3 or equivalent).
- NVQ level 3 in electrical testing and inspection (2391‑52).
Desirable Qualifications
- HV/LV experience across solar PV and BESS.
- Experience acting as or managing an Electrical QS.
- Knowledge of CDM design risk management.
- Experience with FATs, commissioning, and energisation.
- Solar/EESS/EV qualifications as per EAS requirements.
