We are looking for an Area Security Supervisor (based in Wales) overseeing Team Leaders and operational staff within the Wales & South England who provide security response and guarding to sites 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The key responsibilities include taking command and control of major/critical incidents at operational or tactical level, managing and developing the team, creating and implementing operational and emergency procedures, and acting as the key interface between security and other internal/external teams and partners. This role is a fantastic opportunity to have real influence within Mitie security operations within London.
The Area Security Supervisor position is fixed Monday to Friday with occasional weekend on‑call. There may be occasions (due to operational requirements) when the Area Security Supervisor needs to provide cover during other times of the day or night, including out‑of‑hours visits to various sites and on‑call roles at weekends on a rota basis. Occasionally the role may involve attending sites during weekends to manage pre‑planned protests or events and travelling nationally as required. Contractual working hours are 45 hrs per week.
The Candidate
Applicants must have proven experience line‑managing a team, ideally in a busy security, Civil Service, military or police environment, and experience creating and developing new procedures and processes. Previous knowledge of incident management and command‑and‑control structures and escalation processes will be beneficial. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to work, essential due to the nature of the role. Essential SIA Door Supervisor licence.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the operation and continual development of the security staff within their region.
- Be the first management point of contact for any security incidents.
- Ensure KPIs are met and in line with client expectations.
- Maintain current and up‑to‑date procedures for the security staff.
- Manage shift patterns, authorise and plan staff leave, and manage sickness absence.
- Conduct performance development reviews and team meetings.
- Assist with recruitment and retention of security staff.
- Develop contingency and emergency planning and procedures for all operational sites in case of emergency.
- Develop and implement new systems on behalf of the BBC, then organise in‑house workshops to embed these.
- Monitor and analyse all relevant reports and briefing documents.
- Complete and distribute management reports to the Senior Leadership Team and client.
- Take a proactive role in suggesting continuous improvement.
- Maintain appropriate records of accidents, incidents or near misses and an accurate log of site restrictions/hazard identification.
- Work with the security operations team to keep online site inductions, site safety documentation and operational safety plans up‑to‑date for each site.
- Contribute to ensuring operations and maintenance activities match industry best practice and regulatory Health, Safety and Environment standards.
- Carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.
Qualifications
The Person
- Essential – Previous experience line‑managing a team and holding a valid SIA Security Licence.
- Essential – Clear and confident communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Essential – Willingness to work shift work/non‑routine hours including weekends.
- Essential – Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Essential – Previous knowledge/experience of Incident Management within an operational environment.
- Essential – Willingness to undertake continuous personal development.
- Desirable – Health and Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely) or experience.
- Desirable – Proven ability to quickly learn and effectively adhere to new processes and procedures.
- Desirable – Previous experience/qualification in delivery of training.
- Desirable – Contributes to a positive team environment.
- Desirable – Drive, enthusiasm and self‑motivation.
Monday to Friday – The Area Security Supervisor will report to the Area Security Manager.
