About us

Mitchell & Stones is a digital marketing agency based in Southampton. We work with ambitious businesses across the UK, delivering marketing strategies and campaigns that drive real commercial outcomes.

About the role

You will own the full growth function at Mitchell & Stones. That means generating new business, closing it, tracking revenue across the agency, and working closely with account management to protect retained income and reduce client churn. This is not a siloed sales role. You will be equally focused on what happens after a client signs: scoping work accurately, identifying expansion opportunities, and stepping in when a relationship needs attention. You need commercial instinct, genuine operational capability, and the credibility to represent the agency at director level.

What you'll be responsible for

  • New business
    • Own and manage all lead generation channels: LinkedIn outreach, cold email, direct mail, expos, and third-party platforms including Bark
    • Manage the BD executive and two BD admins, ensuring campaign operations run smoothly and monthly changeovers happen without issue
    • Conduct discovery calls with prospective clients, typically business owners and commercial directors, and qualify both fit and viability
    • Build tailored proposal decks and deliver them in person across the UK
    • Lead negotiations, agree pricing, and close deals that are right for the client and profitable for the agency
    • Handle all paperwork at sign-off and own the handover to account management, setting every new client up for a strong start
  • Revenue generation and protection
    • Produce a monthly BD report tracking leads, spend, cost per lead, and progress against revenue targets
    • Maintain the agency's revenue tracker across retained clients, project work, and pipeline, including forecasting and expansion opportunities
    • Scope website and one-off project enquiries accurately before they are confirmed
    • Monitor retained client health and flag at-risk accounts early, working with account management to address issues before they become churn
    • Lead rescoping, expansion, and conflict resolution conversations when client relationships need attention
  • Operations and strategy
    • Identify new lead generation opportunities and test new channels and formats
    • Manage print spend and data acquisition budgets
    • Work with the design team to produce collateral that converts: brochures, expo materials, and proposal decks
    • Contribute to agency positioning: case studies, website content, and sales-relevant updates
    • Maintain a close working relationship with account management to ensure what's sold can genuinely be delivered

What we're looking for

  • Commercially sharp: you understand margins, pipeline, forecasting, and what drives retention
  • Naturally personable and able to build genuine relationships quickly, with both prospects and existing clients
  • A strong listener who diagnoses a problem before trying to solve it; we sell consultatively
  • Confident going into new environments and owning them from the start
  • Experienced managing a small team and keeping complex operations running to a standard
  • Willing to travel across the UK regularly for in-person proposal and client meetings
  • Proactive and self-directed; you see what needs doing and do it
  • Comfortable briefing a design team and contributing to sales collateral

Benefits

  • Flexi hours
  • On-site parking
  • Work from home
