We are working with a well-established and growing law firm to recruit a senior finance leader to oversee the firm's financial strategy, performance and controls. This is a key leadership role, responsible for ensuring financial stability, regulatory compliance and providing high-quality financial insight to support informed decision-making and sustainable growth. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will work closely with the wider Leadership Team and act as a trusted financial advisor to partners and senior management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement the firm's financial strategy in line with business objectives
    • Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director, Board and senior leadership team
    • Contribute to firm-wide strategic planning, growth initiatives, mergers and investment decisions
    • Lead, mentor and develop the Finance and Accounts team, promoting high standards and accountability
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and ensure effective performance management across the team
  • Financial Management & Reporting
    • Oversee budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning
    • Produce accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports
    • Analyse financial performance, including profitability by practice area, matter and client
    • Monitor and manage key financial metrics such as cash flow, WIP, lock-up and partner drawings
  • Law Firm & Professional Services Finance
    • Oversee billing processes, revenue recognition and matter profitability
    • Ensure effective management of work in progress (WIP) and debtor balances
    • Manage bonus schemes and partner compensation models
    • Support pricing strategies, fee arrangements and profitability analysis
  • Compliance, Risk & Governance
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, tax and accounting requirements relevant to legal practices
    • Oversee audits, tax filings and relationships with external auditors and advisors
    • Maintain robust financial controls, governance frameworks and risk management processes
  • Operational & Systems Oversight
    • Oversee financial and practice management systems and reporting tools
    • Drive process improvements, automation and efficiency across the finance function
    • Manage relationships with banks, insurers and external financial partners
  • Professional Development
    • Participate in regular performance reviews
    • Complete firm-wide mandatory training
    • Undertake ongoing professional development to remain current in the role
