Finalist Finance Analyst in Birmingham

Birmingham Full-Time On-site
Mitchell Adam Careers

Overview

If you're a part-qualified accountant who enjoys understanding what sits behind the numbers, this could be a good next step. The role sits within an established FP&A function and gives you the chance to work closely with operational teams, helping them understand their financial performance and using that information to support better decisions.

At its core, the role combines FP&A, financial analysis and operational business partnering. You'll support the budgeting and forecasting process, review site-level P&L performance, analyse revenue and costs, investigate variances and produce management information for senior stakeholders. You'll also work directly with operational teams, helping them understand their results and providing insight into the factors driving performance.

The role is varied, with a mixture of recurring reporting and forward-looking analysis. Alongside the regular FP&A cycle, you'll get involved in ad hoc commercial analysis and projects where the business needs a deeper understanding of performance. It's a position where you'll spend time both analysing the numbers and discussing them with the people responsible for delivering the results.

Skills Needed

  • Part-qualified CIMA or ACCA, with a good grounding in management accounting or financial analysis.
  • Comfortable working with P&L information, budgets and forecasts, with an ability to understand the reasons behind financial movements.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and present clear conclusions.
  • Confident communicator who enjoys working with people outside of finance and can explain financial information clearly.

What You Will Receive

  • A genuine blend of FP&A, financial analysis and operational business partnering.
  • Regular exposure to site teams and senior stakeholders, building your commercial confidence, whilst working from home 3 times a week.
  • Hands-on involvement in budgets, forecasts, P&L reviews and wider performance analysis.
  • A strong development opportunity for someone looking to progress towards Senior Finance Analyst, FP&A or Finance Business Partner roles.

Summary

This is a role for someone who wants their accounting background to open the door to broader commercial finance. You'll still have plenty of analytical work to get stuck into, but you'll also be out in the business understanding performance, questioning the numbers and helping stakeholders make sense of them. For a finalist accountant looking for a role that offers more variety and visibility, it provides a strong platform to develop.
