My client, a multi-disciplined manufacturing organisation, is currently looking to recruit a permanent full-time machine operative.

Principle Accountabilities

Preparing all aspects of tool change in readiness for manufacturing.

Activities, Duties and Key Tasks

  • TOOL CHANGING & PRODUCTION
    • Retrieve tools from stores and update records.
    • Deliver tool to machines.
    • Clean hopper.
    • Load material into the machine hopper and update records.
    • Undertake first-off inspections, undertaking measurements against specifications/drawings and undertake quality control measures.
    • Remove moulds from machines and stage for disassembly.
    • Maintain clean and organised work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilisation.
    • Complete and update necessary paperwork.
    • Maintain inventories of materials.
  • GENERAL SHOP FLOOR TASKS
    • Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance.
    • Follow company Health and Safety regulations.
    • Liaise with Production Manager with any problems with preparing jobs effectively immediately.
    • Observe continuous operation of automatic machines to ensure that products meet specifications and to detect jams or malfunctions, reporting as necessary.
    • Perform maintenance work such as cleaning and oiling machines.
    • Repair or replace damaged moulds, pipes, belts, chains, or other equipment, using hand tools, hand-powered presses, or jib cranes.
    • Ensure good housekeeping is kept at all times.
    • Ad-hoc tasks for Line Manager and assist all Directors with all reasonable requests.

Qualifications/Experience

  • General engineering experience - Essential
  • Specific training to be provided
  • BIT NVQ 2 - Desirable

Person Specification

  • Ability to work in a team - Essential
  • Engineering background - Essential
  • Ability to troubleshoot - Essential
  • Knowledge of Demag machinery - Desirable – training available
  • Ability to understand and deliver quality criteria - Desirable – training available
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation requirements - Desirable
  • Lean manufacturing experience - Desirable

Working hours are 40hrs per week, however due to my client's infrastructure, there is a certain amount of flexibility with shifts starting at 7am and ending at 5pm, with 8-2 on Fridays. There is also an option to either start at 7, 8 or potentially even 9 (but would need to finish at 6 in order to complete the 40 hour working week).
