About The Role The Head of Portfolio Management will provide MISSION’s underwriting performance and portfolio analytics capability across its growing portfolio of MGAs and risk capital providers.
Working closely with MGA leadership teams, carriers and MISSION’s technology teams, the role will support profitable growth through portfolio performance analysis, pricing insight, underwriting analytics, carrier engagement, and the development of underwriting raters and pricing tools.
The role will act as MISSION’s technical expert on underwriting performance, supporting carrier placements, capacity relationships and strategic growth initiatives through data-driven analysis and portfolio insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrier Engagement
- Support MISSION in the placement, renewal and ongoing management of non-ARX risk capital relationships.
- Provide technical pricing and portfolio analytics expertise during carrier discussions.
- Assist in the preparation of portfolio submissions, performance reviews and renewal presentations.
- Portfolio Performance – Accelerant Risk Exchange (ARX)
- Support MGA leadership teams and Mission Account Directors in discussions relating to underwriting performance, pricing, portfolio optimisation and claims trends.
- Assist MGAs in preparing for and responding to Accelerant portfolio reviews and performance discussions.
- Portfolio Performance – Other Risk Capital Partners
- Monitor and analyse underwriting performance, pricing adequacy, claims trends and portfolio profitability.
- Review exposure concentrations, aggregation trends, line deployment and limit bandings.
- Identify underperforming segments, emerging risks and growth opportunities.
- Produce actionable recommendations to improve underwriting profitability and portfolio performance.
- Rating Tools
- Work closely with MGA underwriting teams and MISSION’s technology team to design, test and deploy underwriting raters and pricing tools.
- Translate underwriting appetite, rating structures and trading requirements into technical specifications.
- Drive the ongoing refinement of rating tools based on portfolio performance and trading outcomes.
- Reporting & Management Information
- Define portfolio reporting requirements and performance frameworks across the platform.
- Produce executive reports, portfolio reviews, claims analyses and carrier reporting packs.
- Develop meaningful KPIs and portfolio performance metrics.
- Deliver portfolio insights and recommendations to Mission leadership, MGA partners and carrier stakeholders.
- Ensure consistency, quality and accuracy of underwriting management information across the platform.
- New MGA Opportunity Assessment
- Support the evaluation of prospective MGA opportunities from an underwriting profitability and portfolio perspective.
- Review underwriting assumptions, pricing methodologies, target loss ratios and growth forecasts.
- Assess portfolio composition, exposure profiles and expected performance.
Qualifications
- Qualified Actuary (FIA, FCAS, FSA or equivalent).
- Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a related quantitative discipline.
- 8+ years’ experience in insurance, reinsurance, MGA or Lloyd’s market environments.
- Strong experience in pricing, portfolio analytics, underwriting performance and profitability analysis.
- Experience supporting carrier relationships, capacity providers and portfolio reviews.
- Advanced analytical and modelling skills, including strong Excel capability; experience with Power BI, SQL, Python or similar tools desirable.
- Experience within delegated authority, specialty insurance or MGA business models preferred.
- Additional Information
This is a remote position. Planned, in-office activities may be required on occasion (typically 2-4x per year).
You must live in the UK and be authorized to work in the UK without requirement of employment sponsorship/visa.
