Senior Material Controller - Export Ready to take ownership of international shipments and keep export orders moving without a hitch?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established Stevenage distribution business where accuracy, pace and great teamwork really matter.
You’ll be part of a close-knit team in a clean, bright warehouse environment, working hands-on with customers, couriers, freight forwarders and internal teams to get goods packed, documented and despatched correctly.
The role in a nutshell As Material Controller - Export, you’ll own the export process from order review to despatch.
You’ll make sure shipments are accurate, compliant, properly documented and ready to move on time, while keeping records complete and issues moving quickly to resolution.
What you’ll be doing
- Preparing accurate export paperwork, including commercial invoices, packing lists, carrier documents, certificates of origin and destination-specific documents.
- Checking orders, shipping instructions, Incoterms, HS codes, origin, values, weights, EORI details and customer requirements before release.
- Booking shipments with approved couriers, carriers and freight forwarders, producing clear labels and shipping instructions.
- Packing and preparing goods for export while maintaining product integrity, traceability and safe working practices.
- Spotting compliance risks early, including licences, end-user checks, sanctions screening, dangerous goods and missing approvals.
- Resolving customs queries, documentation issues, delays and delivery exceptions with customers, couriers and internal teams.
- Keeping shipment, tracking and export records accurate in internal systems and supporting the wider Operations team when priorities shift. What you’ll bring:
- Proven export, international shipping, freight forwarding or customs experience.
- Strong UK export knowledge, including customs paperwork, Incoterms, HS/commodity codes, country of origin, EORI, values, weights and shipment details.
- Awareness of export controls, sanctions, licensing, dangerous goods and restricted-party checks.
- Sharp attention to detail, great organisation and a calm approach when priorities change.
- Clear communication with customers, couriers, freight forwarders and internal teams.
- Good Outlook and Microsoft Office skills, plus confidence learning internal systems and carrier/customs platforms. You’ll thrive here if you are
