Role Description This is a contract, on-site role based in the London Area, United Kingdom. The Senior Haute Couture Pattern Cutter will translate design sketches, technical references, and creative direction into precise couture patterns for toiles and final garments. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting and developing complex patterns by hand, conducting fittings, making adjustments, and working closely with the creative director, sample room, and machinists to ensure flawless construction and fit. The role involves interpreting and refining silhouettes, advising on garment construction techniques, and problem-solving for intricate shapes, drapes, and embellishments. The Senior Haute Couture Pattern Cutter will also oversee pattern grading where needed, maintain organized pattern archives, and help guide more junior team members on couture cutting standards and best practices.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in haute couture or luxury fashion pattern cutting, including hand-drafting, draping on the stand, and complex garment construction.
- Strong ability to interpret design sketches and technical references into accurate patterns, with a refined understanding of fit, balance, and proportion.
- Proficiency with couture techniques such as internal structuring, corsetry, boning, and advanced finishing methods for gowns and occasionwear.
- Hands-on experience collaborating with seamstresses, ateliers, and design teams from initial toile through final garment, including fittings and alterations.
- Exceptional attention to detail, precision, and craftsmanship, with the ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining couture-level standards.
- Demonstrated experience working with delicate and specialty fabrics (e.g., silk, tulle, organza, embellished textiles) and solving technical challenges.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and mentor more junior pattern cutters or interns.
- Relevant qualification in Pattern Cutting, Fashion Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in a couture or high-end atelier.
- Comfort working on-site in a studio environment, with flexibility to support evening or weekend work during peak collection and event periods.
