The Risk and Compliance team works in collaboration with the business to ensure best practice across the Firm, effectively managing all aspects of the regulation surrounding the efficient running of our Firm. The role sits within the General Counsel team as a critical member providing legal advice and guidance within the department and across the MDR Group, supporting the firm’s growth and the development of emerging businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the GC/COLP on non‑contentious general legal risk related issues and lead where appropriate: general queries, legal advice, policy updates, procedures and firm‑wide projects across commercial and regulatory issues.
  • Lead the management and review of commercial and client‑related contracts and terms of business, alongside stakeholders in the firm.
  • Act as a trusted legal advisor on data protection and technology risk issues and projects, working closely with the R&C and data protection teams.
  • Take a proactive mindset toward the ever‑changing regulatory landscape, assessing impact and enacting amendments or changes as required.
  • Prepare and deliver regulatory training within the Department and where applicable across the Firm, to promote compliance with our risk management ethos.
  • Support other team members with ongoing learning and professional development, including line‑management responsibilities when appropriate.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for junior team members, delivering training and providing additional support on ad‑hoc projects.

Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer.
  • Relevant compliance experience, ideally gained within a Risk and Compliance team in a UK law firm, financial institution or regulator.
  • Experience using Intapp and knowledge of conflicts of interest.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to present confidently to stakeholders.
  • Highest standards of legal rigour delivered with care, professionalism and a pleasant manner.
  • Inquisitive mind with the ability to spot trends and issues before they occur.
  • Excellent drafting skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and prioritising skills to meet the demands of challenging, commercial internal clients and competing priorities.
  • Efficient and responsive, with the ability to challenge and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage own diverse workload, remain proactive, resilient and calm under pressure.
  • Commitment to self‑development and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible and agile approach to workload, working closely with the General Counsel and other team members.
