This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established and innovative team of Knowledge Lawyers (KLs) at Mishcon, led by our Head Knowledge Lawyer, Nina O'Sullivan.

At Mishcon our knowledge lawyers are placed at the heart of the teams delivering client service.

The KLs are a 25 strong team of dedicated 'lawyer to the lawyer' experts and benefit from the same career structure (including partnership) as fee-earners.

They develop knowledge assets to support excellence and brand in our offering; train and mentor our lawyers; harness technologies, including artificial intelligence to streamline and enhance fee earner output; deliver engaging content and thinking to clients and our wider external knowledge communities; and steer us in being compliant, more efficient and profitable in the way we practise law.

In this role, which is central to driving success for the PWT practice group, the Private Department and the Firm in its offering to individuals, family offices and trustees, in the UK and internationally, you will:

  • Shape and deliver the practice group knowledge strategy, collaborating with KLs both in the Private Department and the wider Firm to implement their strategic knowledge visions.
  • Alongside our highly regarded Academy, co-ordinate, design, prepare and capture internal and client legal training (including online solutions, where appropriate).
  • Collect, draft, maintain and update key precedents, know how, and client guides including with automated document assembly, following the Firm's house style.
  • Monitor law and practice developments and provide horizon scanning updates to both our lawyers and clients.
  • Leverage knowledge and technology to develop business opportunities, add value to key client relationships, and to bring efficiencies to client service delivery.
  • Deliver content for the Department's communication strategy including client alerts and articles in other Mishcon and external publications, including the legal, trade and general press.
  • Provide targeted, strategic support to identify, leverage and - with the support of the BD team and fee-earners - implement new and emerging Business Development initiatives.
  • Manage the Department's knowledge pages on the Firm's intranet (Mishcon Knowledge) and other know how repositories.
  • Work with Risk & Compliance and the Partners to implement and embed best practice (Mq²) and risk management practices across the Department and support in any statutory, regulatory and other risk management changes.
  • Utilise technology, including AI, to surface and efficiently deploy internal knowledge assets, create process efficiencies and streamline workflows, supporting both the Private Department and the wider Firm in its Vision 2030 commitment to embrace AI as part of a broader transformation that touches on every aspect of the firm, from client experience to internal efficiency.
  • Respond to technical law and practice queries from fee-earners.
  • Other general Knowledge Lawyer duties.

Ideally 8+ years PQE and either: a KL (PSL) already or switching from fee-earning but able to demonstrate KL skills and a track record of knowledge contribution.

  • Deep tax law and practice and international private client expertise.
  • Real enthusiasm for, and proven record of, business development and knowledge commercialisation.
  • Excellent writing and drafting skills.
  • Strong organisational, prioritising and interpersonal skills.
  • Good teamwork and the ability to work independently with self-motivation.
  • Ability to embrace and promote new ways of working and aptitude to work with emerging legal technology.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure with an adaptable and flexible approach.
  • Proactive and takes initiative.
  • Sound operational knowledge of Microsoft programs.
