As a Business Development Manager at Mishcon de Reya, you will support the Real Estate Department, collaborating with senior executives to deliver BD activities and projects and contribute to the firm’s overall strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Improve the marketing capability of the department’s lawyers and raise awareness of the role of the BD team.
  • Attend fee‑earner practice meetings to develop and progress practice group and sector business plans.
  • Develop the department’s and the firm’s profile through PR, editorial, thought leadership, market research, conferences, newsletters, and seminars.
  • Create high‑quality pitch documents, credential documents and marketing materials with the department and BD team.
  • Guide and support Practice Groups in preparing directory submissions.
  • Lead coordination and delivery of events.
  • Collaborate with firm sectors to develop market activities.
  • Understand cross‑departmental referrals and encourage growth across Vision 2030 markets.
  • Produce marketing collateral for the firm’s reputation, including PowerPoint presentations, brochures, client briefings and other communications.
  • Identify appropriate clients and intermediaries for growth and develop plans accordingly.
  • Collect and analyse strategic data, translating findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Research industry trends, market dynamics, and the competitive landscape to provide proactive updates and identify opportunities and threats.
  • Identify and develop practice‑specific products and services to position the practice competitively.
  • Work with Knowledge Lawyers to ensure awareness of key legal issues and trends.
  • Collaborate with the Business Insights team to develop metrics measuring effectiveness of activities.
  • Strengthen the “one team” culture, mentor junior members, and maintain a positive, senior‑team approach.
  • Contribute to cross‑firm marketing and BD plans, and use all communication channels (website, e‑bulletins, media, sponsorship, conferences, research networks).

Qualifications

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years as a Business Development Manager or equivalent role in marketing and BD.
  • Experience in a professional services environment (law firm or large property agent/company preferred).
  • Strategic and creative thinking with strong commercial sense and a practical approach.
  • Client development focus with pitch/proposal preparation experience and coaching ability.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously with energy, enthusiasm and drive.
  • Confidence negotiating with fee‑earners on BD activity while balancing practice and firm interests.
  • Team‑orientated approach demonstrating commercial and client‑led focus.
  • Swift, analytical problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
