IP Litigation at Mishcon
Sitting at the heart of the Innovation Department, our IP team works with the owners of some of the world's best-known IP rights to create value by protecting, enforcing and exploiting their valuable IP. Ranked in Tier 1 in Legal 500, the team has received several major industry awards, including UK Trade Mark Litigation Team of the Year (MIP, 2025 and 2022), UK Trade Mark Prosecution Team of the Year (MIP, 2024) and UK Trade Mark Contentious Firm of the Year (Global IP Awards, 2022 and 2023).
Our IP disputes group covers the broadest spectrum of IP rights, having handled high-profile cases such as Sky v SkyKick (CJEU and Supreme Court), Nintendo v Sky (first-ever blocking injunction based on technological protection measures), Iceland v Iceland (EU General Court), Thom Browne v adidas (High Court), Dr Reddy's v Warner-Lambert (Patents Court) and DISH v Aylo (multi-jurisdictional dispute involving the Unified Patents Court and Patents Court).
We take particular pride in our enforcement expertise: our lawyers have secured and enforced search-and-seizure orders, advised on and obtained blocking injunctions, managed anti-counterfeiting and grey-market initiatives, and conducted criminal prosecutions where our clients have been victims of IP crime.
As part of Mishcon's Innovation Department, the IP Group serves a diverse client base across the innovation economy, including multinational technology and life-sciences companies, venture-backed businesses, and entrepreneurial individuals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advising on a wide range of disputes and related advisory work concerning soft IP (trade marks, designs, copyright, confidential information) and patents, including SPCs, FRAND disputes and freedom-to-operate analyses.
- Handling IP-related commercial disputes, typically involving licensing or the supply/sale of IP-protected goods and services.
- Engaging in general IP advisory work (e.g., advertising clearance, ASA disputes), opposition, revocation and invalidity disputes before the UKIPO and other registries.
- Participating in business development, client care, training, learning, and social impact projects within the IP Group, the wider Innovation Department, and the firm.
Skills / Experience
- 4-8 years' PQE in private practice, with substantive and procedural expertise across IP disciplines and strong "White Book" experience.
- A passion for IP, solid grounding in its basics, and a commitment to building a career in IP.
- Excellent client-care skills, advocating both technically and commercially while prioritising client interests.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication.
- Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of client work and an independent, well-prioritised workload.
- Excellent team-working, organisational and prioritising skills.
- Personable and confident, fostering good relationships with colleagues, clients and external organisations.
- Resilient and calm under pressure.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for business development, both internally and externally.

- Experience with or interest in the Oxford IP Diploma.
