Overview
The Litigation Department at Mishcon de Reya LLP has one of the largest and most comprehensive Dispute Resolution offerings in London; over half of the Firm's lawyers are litigators. We have built a team that covers major areas of the Dispute Resolution world including White Collar Crime & Investigations, Tax, Competition and Anti-Trust, International Arbitration, Intellectual Property and Fraud Defense & Business Disputes. Each dispute requires a bespoke solution, sometimes aggressive, sometimes measured. We fight our client's corner: we take ownership of our client's dispute so that we can resolve it as effectively as possible. We fiercely guard our clients' interests.
Team and Practice Areas
The Finance and Tax Disputes Group and related areas are part of the firm’s Dispute Resolution offering. The team covers high-value, multi-jurisdictional matters and provides strategic advice to achieve clients' objectives.
Finance and Tax Disputes Group
The Finance and Banking Disputes team is recognised for its top-flight financial and regulatory disputes practice. Our lawyers have deep knowledge of the financial services sector, complex financial products and documentation, and financial regulations. For businesses in the financial services sector, individuals and corporates with disputes involving financial products and documents, and individuals and corporates engaged with overseas or domestic financial services regulatory bodies, the team has the relevant legal and industry expertise to provide strategic advice. Matters are often high value and multi-jurisdictional. We view litigation as part of the overall strategy to achieve clients' objectives and offer a significant return on investment. The team supports cross-border action, injunctive and urgent relief, freezing orders and worldwide tracing actions.
Tax Disputes and Investigations
The Tax Disputes and Investigations team provides multi-disciplinary legal advice on direct and indirect tax disputes, employment-related taxes and civil and criminal tax investigations. We understand that tax matters affect every business and individual, and navigating HMRC processes can be difficult. Our team has direct experience of working within HMRC and can assist clients in reaching a satisfactory outcome, through litigation and other dispute resolution methods. If clients face an aggressive tax collection strategy, we can often secure the correct outcome at an early stage through negotiation with HMRC and/or pursuing litigation.
Skills and Attributes
We are looking for an Associate with an interest in all aspects of commercial litigation, as well as Finance and Banking Disputes, to join our team and provide full support to the Partners in case management and business development, while helping to mentor other colleagues. Candidates will ideally have 3+ years of PQE, strong academics, solid experience, and be confident in managing client relationships, workloads and priorities. We are seeking proactive, ambitious, driven and enthusiastic applicants who are commercial, creative legal thinkers with a business mindset. Sound commercial acumen and the ability to think on your feet are essential.
Please note that this job profile is not an exhaustive list of duties but outlines key components of the role. You may be required by your line manager to take on additional responsibilities.
