Location: MIS-ES operates a flexible hybrid working environment, you will be expected to attend the head office 1 day a week (Driving license holder preferred).
Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and technically capable Infrastructure & SQL Support Engineer to join our IT and application support team. The successful candidate will have strong experience with Windows Server environments, networking, and SQL Server administration, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and support business-critical applications. This role requires someone who can work independently, diagnose problems efficiently, and collaborate closely with development and infrastructure teams to support implementations, application configuration, and ongoing system improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments
- Support and administer Microsoft SQL Server databases
- Upon adequate training will be required to join the 24/7 (remote only) on-call rota
- Troubleshoot and diagnose infrastructure, networking, database, and application issues
- Perform application installations, upgrades, and configuration changes
- Support implementation and deployment of new systems and applications
- Monitor system performance and resolve incidents proactively
- Work closely with developers and third-party vendors to resolve technical issues
- Manage server builds, patching, maintenance, and environment configuration
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes
- Maintain documentation for systems, procedures, and configurations
- Assist with network troubleshooting including connectivity, DNS, firewalls, and VPN issues
- Participate in system testing, release activities, and change management processes
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong experience with Windows Server administration
- Solid understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls
- Experience administering and supporting Microsoft SQL Server, including high availability
- Proven troubleshooting and problem diagnosis skills across infrastructure and applications
- Experience with application implementation and configuration
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work closely with developers and support teams
- Experience supporting production environments and business-critical systems
- Knowledge of server monitoring and maintenance processes
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS
- Knowledge of scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell
- Experience with IIS, application hosting, or middleware platforms
