Master Technician

About the role

In this role you will be a key technical member of the Production team, working primarily on the flow line while providing additional technical capability and support when more complex issues arise. You will use your enhanced mechanical and manufacturing knowledge to troubleshoot problems, identify root causes and physically resolve issues to ensure products continue to move through production safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced technician who wants to use their technical expertise to make a wider contribution to the Production team. You will act as a first point of technical escalation for more complex issues, working closely with Production Supervisors, Engineering, Quality and other functions to resolve problems and support continuous improvement.

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBLITLIES:

In your role as our Master Technician, you will:

• Work primarily on the production flow line, carrying out assembly and manufacturing activities to the required quality, safety and production standards.
• Act as a technical escalation point for Production Technicians when they encounter complex mechanical, tooling, assembly or manufacturing issues.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and physically resolve technical issues that cannot be addressed through standard production processes, with the support of the engineering team as required.
• Carry out controlled rework, modification, adjustment and repair activities to ensure products meet the required specification and quality standards.
• With Engineering, use mechanical and practical engineering knowledge to identify the root cause of problems and determine the most appropriate method of resolution.
• Support Production Technicians with difficult or non-standard assembly activities, providing practical guidance and hands-on assistance where required.
• Work closely with the Production Supervisor to prioritise technical issues and minimise disruption to the production flow.
• Escalate issues appropriately to Engineering, Quality or other relevant functions where a problem requires further technical investigation or approval.
• Support the introduction of new products and processes by providing practical manufacturing and technical input, identifying potential issues and supporting the development of robust assembly methods.
• Work with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to identify improvements to tools, fixtures, jigs and manufacturing processes.
• Provide practical feedback to Engineering, Quality and Production leadership on product, process and tooling issues identified during manufacture.
• Support the development and improvement of standard work instructions, assembly methods and production processes by sharing technical knowledge and practical experience
• Provide practical training, coaching and technical guidance to the wider Production team on specific processes, non-standard or more technically complex activities, helping to develop capability and confidence across the team.
• Ensure all rework and technical interventions are completed in accordance with the appropriate procedures, approvals and quality requirements.
• Support the Production team in maintaining performance and achieving agreed production targets.
• Maintain good housekeeping and visual factory standards, including 5S, within the production area and encourage others to maintain the required standards.
• Share knowledge and practical skills with other Production Technicians, helping to build technical capability and confidence across the team.
• Maintain a strong focus on health and safety, ensuring all technical and rework activities are carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute practical ideas to improve product quality, production efficiency, tooling and manufacturing processes.

About you

• Engineering biased NVQ Level 3, HNC / HND or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrable experience as a Technician within a demanding serial production manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical and practical engineering skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve manufacturing and assembly issues.
• A broad range of practical manufacturing skills, with experience across areas such as machining, fabrication, sheet metal work, welding and other associated manufacturing techniques.
• Experience gained from within either aerospace, automotive, engineering, manufacturing or a similar technical environment.
• Experience of working on a flow line or within a structured production environment.
• Demonstrable experience of carrying out mechanical assembly, rework, modification, repair or troubleshooting activities
• Strong understanding of tooling, fixtures, and their application within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose issues logically and identify practical solutions.
• Ability to work confidently with hand tools, power tools and appropriate workshop or production equipment.
• Understanding of quality requirements and the importance of completing work to specification.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to colleagues and other functions.

Desirable:

• Experience within an aerospace manufacturing or aircraft interiors environment.
• Experience of working with composite, mechanical or highly engineered products.
• Experience of manufacturing or production tooling, fixtures and jigs.
• Formal mechanical engineering or manufacturing qualification.
• Experience of structured problem-solving methodologies.
• Lean Six Sigma qualification or experience working within a Lean manufacturing environment.

Hours may vary with changing workloads and demands, so employee must be flexible and able to work hours as required to support the success of their department.
