The Opportunity
We are seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Farnborough, the position will report into the Projects and Design Team Manager. Please note: we are unable to support sponsorship for this position, therefore applicants must have the right to work in the UK with no visa restrictions. As a Junior Mechanical Engineer you will play a key role in supporting the research, development, and implementation of high temperature and nuclear imaging products. Working alongside a multidisciplined team, you will be responsible for supporting projects from conception to completion. We are looking for a junior engineer eager to apply their knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while gaining hands-on experience. Having some relevant industry work experience would be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and analysing mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
- Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to ensure product functionality and efficiency
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, electrical, and quality assurance, to support product development
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations for project updates
- Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical designs
- Perform engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions
- Perform material selection and cost analysis
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies
- Assist in process improvement and problem-solving initiatives
- Assist with design reviews with internal and external customers
- Creating sketches, outline drawings, detail drawings and assembly drawings
- Design for manufacture, ensuring products are safe, reliable, and meet required industry standards
- Creating accurate part and assembly models
- Prepare Technical Construction Files for product compliance verification
- Design verification and functional testing
- Generating reports, calculations, test procedures, manuals, and master data within the ERP system (Item data, BOMs, Routes)
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Qualified to a minimum degree level in relevant field or relevant experience
- Experience of mechanical design and development using 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably Solidworks and AutoCAD)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to review and work with stakeholders to prioritise workload of self
- Excellent communication, time management and organisational skills
Desirable
- Experience of preparing cost sheets for Sales Enquires
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of RoHS
- Knowledge of drawing standards including BS8888
